If someone had told me a couple of years ago that there was a perfect toothbrush currently on the market that could help eliminate cavities and teach people how to brush with complete accuracy, I would have thought I was listening to some sort of sales scam. However, I have since brought an Oral B Triumph 5000; those suggestions are no longer outlandish to me.

It used to be that when I went to the dentist, there was always some sort of problem even though I had cleaned my teeth twice a day. I’ve got caps, special mouthwash, flossing, etc, but nothing ever seemed to work until my dentist suggested switching my manual toothbrushes to an electric toothbrush. After attempting several brands, I went with my dentist’s suggestion, the Oral B Triumph 5000. It, literally, has kept me cavity free for over a year.

It is not surprising to me that the Braun Oral B Triumph 5000 is approved by the British Dental Health Foundation, as it is not only soft on the gums and tough on tooth decay, but it has the kind of precision plaque-fighting abilities to free your mouth of bacteria. It has an ergonomic handle to encourage appropriate bushing time. Most dental decay occurs because people do not brush well enough or often enough, but the Oral B Triumph 5000 helps prevent this.
Learn By Your Mistakes
When using an ordinary toothbrush I was brushing way to hard, sometimes even leaving my gums bleeding and only recently found out that brushing too hard can increase the occurrence of tooth and gum abrasions. This can eventually lead to sensitivity, gum recession, and periodontal disease. The good thing is I do not have to worry about these problems when using the Oral B 5000 because the smart guide will flash and let me know when I am brushing to hard and I can just ease off. Customised Brushing
I do not have to clean my teeth the same way every time, because the Oral B Triumph 5000 has five different brushing modes available for me to choose from. To change the modes you just have to press the button that is located under the power button, you will also notice that the smart guide will display a little picture showing what brushing mode you are currently on. The mode I use is the first one when you start it up, daily clean, which is just a continuous pulsating for the recommended two minutes. The other modes are massage, sensitive, polish and deep clean.
With all the other modes being self-explanatory you may be thinking what is the difference between daily clean and deep clean. Daily clean prompts the user to every 30 seconds to change the quadrant of your mouth, which in total you’re brushing your teeth for the recommended two minutes. Now with the deep clean mode it is basically the same as before but you are changing to a different quadrant every 45 seconds so you are brushing your teeth for 3 minutes.
Battery Life of the Oral B Triumph 5000
The battery on the Oral B Triumph 5000 lasts ten days from a single charge when brushing twice a day, so if you have a big family it might only last a week. As with anything though the more you use it the faster it’s going to run out. The smart guide uses two AA batteries and will last more than 6 months, it is very convenient being in the bathroom because it shows the time as well which lets me know how late I am for work.

The Upgraded Oral B Triumph 5000
Now seeing there is a newer version of this electric toothbrush I thought I would update you with the differences. You would think that the newer one would cost more; this is not true as they have just replaced the older version with this new one.
The new Oral B triumph 5000 has had a few changes; the main ones are to the toothbrush itself. The handle has been slimmed down giving it a better look, which has changed the way the user holds the toothbrush giving better interaction, the surface structure has changed making the toothbrush more comfortable and easier to grip.
Now one of the most important changes I believe is the upgraded pressure sensor, earlier I talked about the importances of not brushing too hard and Oral B have noticed this as well. Now if you brush too hard a red light will appear on the toothbrush itself, positioned in a way so it will be clearly visible and not unnoticed. If the bright red light in your face doesn’t deter you and you keep brushing hard then it will switch itself into sensitive mode which reduces the speed of the brushing avoiding damaging teeth and gums.
The smart guide still includes all the features that are available on the previous version but now have introduced a star reward system to the new one. The star reward system has 5 stars that are located on the smart guide and when you start brushing your teeth and you do it properly you will be evaluated and rewarded with stars. If you have been rewarded less than 5 stars you know you have to improve. This is a good feature especially for children.
What others have said about the Oral B Triumph 5000
The Good
Looking over hundreds of consumer reviews I can see why the oral b triumph 5000 has become so triumphant. Even the chief of the British dental Health Foundation has one! He says:
“‘having now used the brush for several weeks I feel it is a significant improvement and I have just conformed its position… as the Rolls Royce of brushes and given it a 10/10 mark.”
One review said that they have only had this toothbrush for a few days, but have noticed that their teeth feel much cleaner than when using a manual toothbrush. This is probably due to the fact that the oral b triumph removes 100% more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush.
Lots of reviews like the fact that the smart guide tells them how long they have got left when brushing and how well they have cleaned their teeth. Others liked the fact it notifies you if you’re brushing to hard.
“I was very impressed by this function. In hindsight, I had probably been attacking my gums too vigorously with the sonic toothbrush and this device is far more kinder to the gums.”
The Not So Good
Now we have heard a lot of good about the oral b triumph 5000 but what about the bad there must be some. I can tell you there is. People found the instruction booklet to be a little bit complicated and couldn’t understand it, to be honest when I received mine I didn’t even look at the instructions maybe because I am a man and that’s what we do. But on a serious note you don’t really need it the toothbrush heads goes on top, to charge the toothbrush put in its charging dock and to use it press the big button to change mode press the small button simple, oh don’t forget to put two double A (AA) batteries in the smart guide.
Another small concern was that the charging lead was a tad small, one reviewer said:
“A slight criticism would be the length of the charger lead, it’s too short and does not reach from my sink to the electric shaver point. But my teeth are better off for having met this.”
I measured mine and it came to 120cm and that’s just the wire that doesn’t include the dock or the plug. But in all fairness we shouldn’t really be having electrical charging dock near water. If you do not have a two-ping plug socket you will have to buy an adaptor which is very cheap and usually on sale between 80p and a 1 pound.
Where to buy & Conclusion
All I have to say is if you want healthy, whiter teeth then the Oral B Triumph 5000 is for you and if you think the price is too steep then think of it as an investment from the all the money you will be saving from the dreaded dentist.
